Page 1 of 2 Modeling a lighter takes some finesse, considering its volatile nature.
To model a lighter acording to its real parameters we need to switch the 3DS Max metrics to centimeters. From the Customize menu choose Units setup and choose metric, centimeters.
For starter, we will make the base of this lighter. From the create panel choose shapes, rectangle. Make a rectangle in the top viewport. For height take 1,0cm and width 2.1cm. Corner radius set to 0.5cm.
On base add bevel modifier.
Under Level 1 put: 0.5cm 0.5cm
Level 2: 6.3cm
We have the inital look of lighters body. Na bazu dodajte bevel modifajer.
To get this lighter to look as good as it can, on the base shape object, under interpolation parameters choose adaptive. Line will be more precisely interpolated and bevel object that was created of it will get a nicer curve.
Body of the lighter is not idealy flat. From the modifier list, add taper modifier. Under amount put almost nonexistant 0.1cm. Under Taper Axis group parameters choose Z and Y.
On the same object add edit poly modifier. Go into polygon sub object mode, select upper polygon and remove it with delete. If you do not see the complete object in viewport, you will probably have to turn on show 2 sided. Right click viewport label, configure, viewports and turn on show 2 sided.
With the help of shell modifier we will add depth to lighters body.
Under outter amount put 0, and inner put 2mm.
For the border inside the lighter we will have to make a new object. From the create panel coose shapes, line. Under drag type select corner and draw in rough a line like in the picture.
In vertex sub object mode of this line, set vertex and round the with fillet command available from the properties panel of the selected line.
Add an extrude modifier to this line. As base of this lighter is 1cm high, extrude modifier of this border will be just a little bit smaller (0.95cm) So that it goes into the whole body of lighter. If it is needed use the align tool to set border to middle.
You can spot the look already. |
