step 1

I got these 2 images from istockphoto.com; we are going to work with these images only. Open the image of the kids in Photoshop. First we select the girls from the pics.

step 2

Select the girls int the pic:
I used the quick selection tool (available only in Photoshop CS3). However there are various tools available for selection in Photoshop. The magnetic lasso tool is also another useful tool available is in the earlier Photoshop versions.

step 3

We have selected the girls with the help of magnetic lasso tool, but the selection is not perfect. Now use the polygonal lasso tool. Once you select the polygonal lasso tool the property bar appears at the top of the page, in the properties bar you will see ‘add to selection’ and ‘subtract from selection’ icon. These are very helpful for making a perfect selection.

step 4

Once the selection is complete. Copy the selection to a new layer.
To copy the selection to a new layer press ctrl+j
Deselect the small eye icon in the layer palette to hide the background layer and to see your selection separately

step 5

Now bring in the 2nd picture.
Go to file>> open select the 2nd picture. The second picture will open in a new document.
With the help of magnetic lasso tool select the house and the flower pot in front of the house. Perfect the selection with the help of polygonal lasso tool. Once the selection is made click ctrl+j this duplicates the selection into a new layer (rename this layer to ‘house’). Then drag the house layer to the old documents with the girl’s photo.
